Elizabeth's Warning to Gorgeous George:
"You've Unleashed the Madness- Watch out!"
The Wrestler, October 1999

By Harry Burkett

Elizabeth sat patiently reading the latest issue of Cosmopolitan. There was no need to hurry. It was only 5:15pm and her charge, Lex Luger, hadn't yet arrived at the arena
A familiar voice caught Elizabeth's attention. It was Curt Hennig, who was standing across the backstage area. He was chatting about the gorgeous winters in northern Minnesota, with an unusual emphasis on the word "gorgeous".
Elizabeth figured out why. He was talking to a gorgeous woman: Gorgeous George.
The shapely blonde dynamo was smiling broadly and listening intently. She seemed lost in rapture as Hennig continued his soliloquy about camping tents, kayaks, and mallards
Elizabeth closed the magazine and started tapping her fingers. Where's Randy? she thought. I hope he's not around to see this.
She was aware the conversation was innocent and knew Gorgeous George was committed to her man, Randy Savage. In fact, Elizabeth wasn't sure why she was worried. Her marriage to Savage ended years ago and she was proud of the fact she had gotten on with her life.
Elizabeth and George weren't exactly friends, either. There was a coolness between them, like the uncomfortable tension between two rivals that lingers after the contest has been long over.
Was she worried about Hennig? Not really. Hennig was a schemer and a braggart. She wouldn't mind someone taking him down a notch or two.
Elizabeth remembered all the painful and prolonged feuds that Savage's jealousy had caused over the years. He once vowed to destroy George Steele because "The Animal" showed concern during one of his public admonishments of Elizabeth.
His overprotection of Elizabeth shattered his friendship with Hulk Hogan in 1989. Savage thought Hogan had eyes for Elizabeth and attacked the "Hulkster" at the conclusion of a high-profile tag team match on an NBC special. Savage, then the WWF World Champion, lost his title to Hogan in their WrestleMania V grudge match.
Ric Flair exploited Savage's tendencies in 1992 by revealing incriminating photos of himself with Elizabeth, although it was later proven that the pictures had been altered. When Elizabeth joined Flair and The Four Horsemen in 1996, The "Macho Man" was dragged into yet another senseless and brutal feud.
So much jealousy. So much bad blood.
Elizabeth became lost in her thoughts ... until she heard a member of the security staff mention "Randy is coming".
Suddenly, all her anxiety came to the fore. She bit her nails. Her stomach muscles tightened. She felt queasy. The magazine flopped to the floor as she leapt from her chair.
She dashed across the room and yanked Hennig by the arm. "Randy's coming- you'd better get out of here!"
"What's wrong with you, Liz?" Hennig asked incredulously. "I'm just talking to the lady." He stared at Elizabeth and noted the urgency in her face. "All right, I've got to call Windham anyway."
Hennig tried to look unruffled as he quickly strolled away. Then it was George's turn as she cast a stern eye toward Elizabeth. "What's your probelm? I'm not doing anything wrong!"
Elizabeth, half listening, peered beyond the exit and saw Savage talking to a group of local sports reporters. That would take a while. She ushered George into a private room.
"I've got something to tell you and you'd better listen!" said Elizabeth. "I know you were the one who got him reinstated in WCW, and I've seen how you've pumped up Randy and how you've gotten him psyched to cripple everyone in the company. That's your decision. But don't be foolish. You have Randy worked into such a frenzy that he'll go ballistic just seeing you talking to another man!"
George considered Elizabeth's words. "What does my motivation of Randy have to do with me having an innocent conversation with someone?"
Elizabeth sighed. "Randy doesn't know how to channel his anger. He isn't capable of turning it on and off at a whim. My goodness, you have to know what I went through for so many years! If a fan looked at me, Randy went crazy! Now you've got Randy acting wilder than ever! Can you imagine what would happen if he became jealous? You've unleashed the madness- watch out!"
With that warning, Elizabeth stormed out of the room. Maybe it wasn't her business, but she had done the right thing.
Savage continued fielding questions from reporters, then indicated he had time for only one more question. A kid working for a college paper cleared his throat and asked, "Gorgeous George is a real hot babe. What would you do if someone put the moves on her?"
The "Macho Man" gave an ugly scowl and slid his thumb across his throat. "He'd never make that mistake again. Oooooh Yeaaah! Now get outta here!"
Oooooh, yeaaah, Elizabeth had done the right thing.
